James G Adams (1908 – 1996) was a Hampshire man and most of his publications are based upon his life in Hampshire before the Second World War. His early years were spent in the Winchester, Portsmouth and Alton areas, moving as the demands of his father’s different gardening jobs made necessary. After World War One, James, or Jim as he was known, took various short term jobs before working at the Treloars hospital in Alton. Later he moved to an clerical job at the King Edward VII Sanatorium near Midhurst. Just before the outbreak of World War Two, he married Winifred, formerly Brown, of Lane End near Cheriton and they moved to Farnborough where he worked for Dungay and Lee, estate agent until his retirement about thirty years later.

In his later years, Jim began to write articles for Hampshire, the county magazine, based on his reminiscences about the early years of the twentieth century and these, and other unpublished work found after he died, formed the basis of the six books published by his family after his death.

You can visit the web page of James George Adams for more information about him.

Robert V Adams a son of Jim Adams, moved from Hampshire to the north of England when he left school and later lived in Hull for a quarter of a century, before moving to the wooded fringe of Hessle, where he now lives and writes fiction full time. He worked as a gardener, hotel cellarman, prison officer and acting governor of a penal institution, before turning to writing. He has had what he describes as a double life, studying at Manchester, London, York and Leeds universities and holding full and visiting professorships in three UK universities, where he has written and edited more than 100 books about crime, protest, empowerment, social work and complementary health. Some of his books are best-selling, have sold in every continent and have been translated into several languages, including Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

Robert was member of the Advisory Council of Radio Humberside soon after its inception. He has contributed to local radio documentaries for Radio Leeds and other programmes. He has published two volumes of poetry under different pseudonyms, one or two poems having won awards. He has also written novels, a series of satirical books and short stories under different names for many years. He has been a member of the Crime Writers’ Association and the CWA published his short story ‘The Hull Executive’. He has been the chair of the Books Committee of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain for several years and was chair of the judges of the UK Writers’ Guild 2008 Best Book Award.
